MPEG-FAQ 4.1:
I2M's MEDIA PLAYBACK
Description: Add-on board for Apple Macintosh and PC
For Mac: a full size Nubus board
For PC: a full size ISA board
Processor: Motorola 68341/running 16 MHz
Video Hardware: Motorola MCD210
Audio Hardware: Yamaha YM6064 ADPCM Controller
System Memory: 4MB controlled by the MCD210
Video Expansion: Motorola MCD250 MPEG1 Full Motion Video Decoder.
This is a CD-I MPEG Video decoder which requires only a single
4Mbit DRAM for FMV decoding. Decodes System and Video Layers
at up to 5Mbits/sec, converts from 24/25/30 fps IPB streams to
25/30 fps output video in 24bit RGB/YUV format. Supports extra
CD-I functions such as windowing and still picture mode.
Targeted at consumer applications such as CD-I, CD-Karaoke, Video-CD
and cable TV.
Audio Expansion: Motorola MCD260 MPEG1 Audio Decoder
The MCD260 is a interface IC which goes between a 68K
bus and a DSP56K and strips out the MPEG System Layer whilst also
buffering and synchronizing. A 33MHz 56001 with 8K words of DSP RAM
decodes the MPEG Audio (ISO Layer 1/II @ 44.1KHz, all modes and bit rates)
Video Output: PAL/NTSC Video Composite, RGB
Audio Output: Stereo ADPCM and MPEG Audio
I/O Outputs: one port compatible CD-I 210/220, can uses Mac mouse as CD-I
ouse.
System Software: Runs OS9/CD-RTOS system software, downloaded from host memory.
System Requirements:
- Apple macintosh with Nubus slot (Centris, Quadra, AV)
- Minimum 4MB DRAM
- Apple 300 CD-ROM Drive (internal or external)
- Composite Video Monitor for display or Video Overlay Board.
PC 486/25Mhz with ISA slot
Minimum 4MB DRAM
Double speed, Multisesion, CD-I capable CD-ROM drive
Composite Video Monitor for display (or video grabbing board)
MS Windows 3.1
